Cooking- A Uniquely Human Trait |
One of the most notable evolutionary adaptations of the genus Homo is the enlargement of its brain. The human brain is a large and hungry organ. To further explain, this means that it must consume a significant amount of energy in an effort to maintain proper functioning. How is this energy obtained one might ask? The answer, according to some researchers is cooked food. The brain began to expand rapidly in our ancestor Homo erectus. Many researchers suggest that this early human was the first to learn how to use and cook with fire. Humans are the only species that developed this unique trait of cooking their own food. |
