The Importance of Natural Selection |
Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection has had a profound affect on how humans view their place in the universe. The theory of natural selection discusses the process of change. This concept is often referred to as “survival of the fittest.” Darwin argued that there are limited resources in which individuals struggle to survive. However, some individuals have small beneficial traits that enhanced their opportunities for survival and reproduction compared to those that were lacking these traits. Thus, those with beneficial traits then have a greater evolutionary fitness. These advantageous traits then get passed along to better equip the next generation for their environment and culture. This theory is fundamental in understanding the evolutionary benefits of cooking with fire.
